Rachel Petersen (she/her) walks alongside clients on their journey so they feel understood, validated, and free to be vulnerable. Rachel believes that a safe connection with a therapist is a powerful tool for self-acceptance, healing, and change. Seeing more of a client’s personality and creativity emerge as they feel comfortable is a rewarding part of her job. Rachel utilizes art therapy and EMDR to help clients process their emotions and trauma.
Rachel is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) supervised by Alice “Bess” Green, LPC-S, ATR-BC. Rachel received Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and in Neuroscience and Cell Biology from Montana State University at Bozeman. She later earned a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling, Art Therapy Counseling, and Experimental Psychology from Emporia State University in Kansas. Rachel has experience working with clients who have trauma, grief, mood, anxiety, neurodivergence, and personality disorders, at a residential addiction treatment center and a community mental health center in Kansas. During her internships, she worked with clients at a jail, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, an outpatient addiction treatment center, a university community mental health center, and a private practice.
Rachel is originally from Livingston, Montana, and currently resides in Austin with her husband, daughter, and fur babies. When she’s not working, she enjoys exploring nature, reading, watching documentaries, creative writing, making arts and crafts, and spending time with loved ones.
