Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT)

Are you quietly suffering from loneliness, feelings of shame, or embarrassment? Let us help you create a life worth sharing.

What is RO DBT Therapy?

RO-DBT  is short for Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy®. RO-DBT is an effective treatment for helping people manage excessive self-control.

RO-DBT was created in 2018 by Thomas R. Lynch, PhD, by adapting the evidence-based treatment of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). While Marsha Linehan, PhD, initially created standard DBT to treat people who are struggling with pervasive emotional dysregulation and impulsive behaviors, RO-DBT is customized for treating people who are struggling with “maladaptive overcontrol” – that is, people with excessive self-control, rigidity, and social inhibition.

Do you suffer from loneliness or social isolation?

Do you display calmess on the outside, but suffer from turmoil and distress on the inside?  Do you avoid risk, mask inner feelings, and compulsively seek control? Do you feel lonely even when you are surrounded by loved ones?

You may be suffering from “maladaptive overcontrol.” This can become a vicious cycle, where loneliness leads to more self-doubt, leading to more over-control.

What issues can arise from being overcontrolled?

Overcontrolled individuals may have difficulty showing vulnerability which can lead to feelings of loneliness and even envy or bitterness as they feel disconnected or excluded.

As a result, an overcontrolled person may be quietly suffering from:

  • Loneliness
  • Harsh self judgment
  • Chronic depression or anxiety
  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD), and
  • Perfectionism.

Radically Open DBT (RO DBT Therapy) is a specialized therapy approach that offers a powerful, adaptable framework to help you build deeper connections, increase openness and receptivity to new experiences, and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.

RO DBT also strongly focuses on helping people become self-aware of the messages they’re sending to others, whether intentional or not. The idea is that when we change what we do, we change how we feel
